Founded in 1997, the UFA aims to reinforce Franco-German cooperation in the field of Higher Education and Research particularly by supporting the mobility and the joint education of young researchers.
The Franco-German University (UFA) is funded equally by the French and German governments as well as by the German Bundesländer. At the present time (November 2007), grants amount to nearly 9.5 million of euros per year.
As part of its strategy to support the PhD students and young researchers, the UFA proposes a series of doctoral education and research programmes (joint thesis supervision, doctoral colleges, thematic summer schools, etc.). The call for proposals and the registration form for each program is available on the website of the UFA (available in French and in English) :
http://www.dfh-ufa.org/fr/aide/appels-doffres/recherche/.
For example, in the case of a joint thesis supervision, the UFA financial support covers mobility expenses of research stays of PhD students and expenses incurred by the institutions (travel expenses related to the meetings between thesis supervisors and the PhD student, etc.).
The Franco-German Forum, which is a recruitment exhibition as well as a student exhibition, is also an UFA’s initiative.
It takes place each year in Strasbourg, the next one is scheduled for 14 and 15/11/2008. For more information including the CV- library, job and traineeships opportunities, please feel free to visit the Forum website:

Last but not least, let's mention that the UFA and the Association Bernard Gregory (ABG) have signed a partnership agreement in order to create a "Franco-German office for the professional integrationn of yooung researchers".
