The latest addition to the Biotechno forum family, the BiotechnoSUD forum, is launching its first event on October, 20th 2022 in Marseille. ABG, a long-standing partner of the Biotechno forums, is of course supporting this edition. Discover the objectives and specifics of this event in Marseille through these 3 questions we asked the team.

Tell us about how the Association Bio M came to be, and what it offers?

First, we would like to thank you for this interview and for your interest in our project.

Our association Biotechno Marseille (BIO M) is very young. We created it at the end of 2021 around a rather heterogeneous group: pharmacists, PhD candidates and holders and engineers in immunology, oncology or microbiology, but driven by the same desire to break down the barriers that have been created between academia and all players in the socio-economic world (pharmaceutical industry, Biotechs, med techs, etc.). And also to promote the professional integration of young researchers like us.

We are lucky to be able to evolve in a very friendly ecosystem, Marseille, which is a real land of innovation in biotechnology, especially applied to health!

Our first project is therefore the organisation of a Forum that will be a place for exchanges and meetings between the various actors. To do this, we immediately contacted the Biotechno Network, which has organized this type of event for some twenty years in certain regions of France. In the longer term, our ambition is to contribute to the coming together of the academic world and industry.

Could you elaborate on what the Biotechno Forum is? What about the Biotechno Sud Forum, scheduled for October 20th in Marseille? Tell us how it came about. What does it offer?

The BiotechnoSUD forum is our association's first event. It will be a day of exchange which will take place on October 20th, 2022, close to the Old Port in the main hall of The World Trade Center of Marseille.

The purpose of this day is to inform those (master's students, PhD candidates) interested in pursuing a career in the field of biotechnology applied to health.

The project was born from a clear observation: we are sorely lacking information about career paths outside of academia, although this is improving. Indeed, according to the latest studies of the national network of doctoral schools, over half of PhD holders pursue careers in industry.

This year, we are honored by the presence of our “godmother,” Dr. Catherine Laporte, who coordinates the Marseille Immunopole cluster and leads Innate Pharma's institutional strategy. She is an immunologist trained at the Marseille Luminy Immunology Center (CIML) and will tell us about her career path, from research to industry and technological transfer structures. By the way, she was one of the organizers of the Biotechno Forum during her thesis! Many institutional partners (Mairie de Marseille, Université d'Aix-Marseille and Ecole Doctorale des Sciences de la Vie) and industrialists (pharmaceutical and biotech industries) will also be present during the day!

In practice, the day will include:

ABG, an historic partner of the Forum, has also joined the partners of the Biotechno Sud Forum. Why is it important that the Forum includes these types of players?

As part of this day, we wanted to bring in experts from each business area. Thus, you will find of the day professionals from the biotech, medtech and pharmaceutical industries from different core businesses (consulting, market access, clinical research, etc.), recruitment agencies and technology transfer actors.

Association Bernard Gregory has been working for over 40 years to open up the academic and socioeconomic worlds, which is also our goal.
