Funding for research and technological development in Italy in essential terms has two sources: The European Community, through Structural Funds which are administered by the Italian government;National Funds which are administered by different Ministries, such as MIUR (Ministero dell’Università e della Ricerca) and MAP (Ministero dello Sviluppo Economico), though various programmes and actions aimed at financing specific research projects.
Research public and private organizations have also access to the Framework Programmes which are administered directly by the European Community.
The main actors in the research and technological development field in Italy are: Universities, Public Research Institutes, Private Research Companies, Research Consortia, Scientific and Technology Parks.
