Poste et missions

The newly recruited professor will join the LCSB - an interdisciplinary research centre within the University of Luxembourg. At LCSB we accelerate biomedical research by closing the link between systems biology and medical research. Collaborations between biologists, medical doctors, computer scientists, physicists, engineers and mathematicians offer new insights in complex systems essential for understanding principal mechanisms of disease pathogenesis and for developing new tools in diagnostics and therapy.

Your Role

As an Associate Professor at the University of Luxembourg you will:

  • conduct research at the highest scientific level ;
  • set up and develop your own research group in the field of quantitative biology ;
  • be responsible for establishing visionary and competitive research program in the field of quantitative biology focused on the integration and modelling of big data in the biomedical sciences in view of understanding mechanisms driving disease processes ;
  • be dealing with the rapidly growing quantitative, high-resolution datasets (omics, imaging, medical data, etc.) resulting from national and international biomedical research ;
  • apply predictive modelling to gain new fundamental understanding of disease processes which will allow identification of new therapeutic or preventative intervention points ;
  • successfully attract external research grants from national and international sources (e.g. FNR-ATTRACT or ERC) ;
  • lead interdisciplinary research by reaching out to the experimental, computational and clinical research groups within the collaborative environment of Luxembourg ;
  • interact and collaborate with other groups within the Luxembourg and the international research community
  • promote a culture of quality awareness and openness for continuous improvements ;
  • be engaged in teaching courses for the Master in Systems Biology and upcoming medical education program ;
  • Attract talented PhD students and postdocs to LCSB and offer them excellent mentoring, supervision and training.

Your profile & qualifications

  • a PhD in computational sciences, bioinformatics, mathematics, physics or similar discipline, with a strong understanding of biological systems ;
  • a minimum of 5 years of post-doctoral experience ;
  • an excellent research record in computational modelling proven by high-level publications, conference presentations, and participation in international research collaborations ;
  • experience in interdisciplinary research, systems and computational biology and/or willingness to emerge in this highly interdisciplinary environment ;
  • proven record in acquiring research grants and managing research projects ;
  • teaching experience at the undergraduate and the postgraduate level, as well as strong supervisory skills ;
  • excellent leadership skills, including personnel and budget management skills ;
  • strong interpersonal and communications skills ;
  • an excellent command of English ;
  • a good working knowledge of German or French with the perspective to develop.
