EUREKA, a Network for Market oriented R&D

Founding member of EUREKA, Portugal holds the chairmanship of the European initiative from July 2008 to June 2009Created in 1985, EUREKA includes 38 countries and aims to enhance European competitiveness through its support to businesses, research centres and universities who carry out pan-European projects to develop innovative products, processes and services.
After Slovenia, the Portuguese EUREKA Chair will concentrate on 4 main priorities:
- Promoting of a policy of increased international cooperation,
- Seeking increased co-ordination and synergy with other intra-European mechanisms of R&D support, such as COST,
- Adding value to the EUREKA label increasing world wide recognition of EUREKA as a symbol of innovation and offering a competitive advantage,
- Strengthening of the Project Generation Mechanisms improving relations between the Network and its clusters and promoting voluntary synchronization of project evaluation and funding.
