Description
Internship contract – 6 months | Fulltime/40h | From 01.03.2025 on | Belval Are you passionate about research? So are we! Come and join us
The Advanced Instrumentation for Nano-Analytics (AINA) group of the SIPT unit develops state-of-the-art analytical instruments for nano-analytics and chemical analysis for various applications, including materials science, semiconductor R&D, life sciences, space applications etc. Those state-of-the-art instruments are driven by cutting-edge mass spectrometry instrumentation at the AINA group.
How will you contribute?
We have developed a new compact high mass resolution mass spectrometer based on a multi-reflection time-of-flight technique, the so-called MRTOF spectrometer, which fits not only for online/inline characterization but also for multiple application axes of nano-analytics and space applications. Its prototype has been built for testing in the AINA laboratory. In this context, we are looking for our intern Master student, who is interested in developing and characterizing analytical instrument hardware, software, and data processing. The main objective is to fully characterize the MRTOF prototype's operation, data acquisition and processing, and benchmark it for space applications.
You will be in charge of:
- Acquire knowledge and hands-on skills in characterizing TOF mass spectrometer
- Define the operational and data acquisition protocol of the MRTOF spectrometer
- Develop post-data processing for the MRTOF mass spectrometry
- Perform proof-of-concept tests on the MRTOF prototype
- Benchmark the MRTOF prototype for space applications
- Further develop the prototype in terms of hardware and data processing improvement and applications (optional task – based on the progress)
You will be trained and supported by the MRTOF research team (mass spectrometry instrumentation, mechanical engineering, electronic and software). On to of it, you will have opportunities to work with the multidisciplinary research team of the AINA group, especially on mass spectrometry instrumentation and nano-analytics.
