Research Fellowship Program of the Matsumae International Foundation - Japan

The objective is to foster PhDs to make a stay in Japan from 3 to 6 months during the period from April, 2017 to March, 2018.
Application deadline: August 31, 2016.

The Matsumae International Foundation (MIF) is a non-governmental organization.

Among elligibility requirements of its Fellowship Program, applicants of non-Japanese nationality, must:

hold a Ph.D. (Doctorate) degree, or be recognized by MIF as possessing equivalent academic qualifications.
be 49 years old or under.
have sufficient conversational ability in English or Japanese to prevent insurmountable difficulties during their research activities in Japan.
should not have been in Japan in the past and/or in the present.

Fields of study such as natural science, engineering and medicine are given first priority.

Applicants are free to select host institutions (university research laboratories, national research institutions or the corresponding facilities of private industry).

The financial support provided to successful applicants includes: a stipend for research and stay (an amount of 220,000 yens is provided monthly for the purpose of payment of tuition, expenses for research materials, lodging, meals, transportation, etc), Insurance, Air transportation (a round-trip air ticket to/from Tokyo) and a Lump sum on arrival (an amount of 120,000 yens is provided to assist with local travel expenses on arrival, the initial cost of lodging, etc.).
