Topic description

Inkjet printing is a shaping process with micron scale resolution and is used for applications in electronic parts for example. To give new possibilities to this process, the aim of this thesis is to couple inkjet printing with an external stimulus, here an electric field, in order to induce structuration at a smaller scale, in the printed splat itself. The expected benefits are an enhancement of the physical properties of the printed material thanks to a controlled orientation and structuration inside the splat.
A former thesis showed the feasibility of this approach on drop of millimeter size. The objectives here are to scale down this process inside a commercial inkjet printing device, to setup the electric field inside it and to characterize the structural and physical properties (thermal or electric) of the printed parts in order to highlight the expected impact of the particle arrangement on these properties.
Coupling the benefits of inkjet printing with those of controlling the splats using an electric field will give rise to the elaboration of thermal or electric components with more efficiency for applications such as fuel cell for example.
