You ‘d like to contribute as an intern? Join our Materials Research and Technology department
Through its research into advanced materials and processes, the “Materials Research and Technology” (MRT) department, with its 200 researchers and engineers, contributes to the emergence of enabling technologies that underpin the innovation processes of local and international industry. MRT’s activities hinge on four thematic pillars: nanomaterials and nanotechnology, scientific instrumentation and process technology, structural composites, and functional polymers.
The department also includes four high-tech platforms, focusing on composites, prototyping, characterization and testing. These platforms serve both LIST research staff, and other stakeholders in Luxembourg.
How will you contribute?
The Functional Polymers Unit at LIST is currently pursuing work across multiple fronts related to sustainable polymeric materials.
These efforts include the development of bio-based polymers and reinforcing phases, inherently reworkable / repairable / recyclable thermosets ("vitrimers"), allcellulose composites, and their adaptation to a range of processing approaches. These include additive manufacturing, composite formation via compression and resin transfer molding, reactive extrusion and melt compounding.
While a broad range of materials and processes are of interest in this context, the overarching goal is the same: generate new materials combining performance and sustainability and demonstrate efficient, scalable processes enabling their transformation into useful parts.
You will be integrated into a specific effort based on your background, profile and interests.
In this context, your work will consist of the following:
- Pursuing a specific sub-topic related to ongoing development of novel polymeric materials and associated process approaches.
- Reviewing the research literature related to their sub-topic.
- Safely and efficiently carrying out and documenting the associated lab work
