Topic description

This thesis is part of the PEPR-TASE programme, and more specifically the DC-Architect project, which aims to study medium-voltage continuous networks (MVDC) and their contribution to future electricity distribution.
The aim of this thesis is to study the evaluation criteria for determining the advantages and disadvantages of including DC part types in an existing MV distribution network, following a number of case studies already identified in the literature. This thesis complements theses already in progress in the DC-Architect project, more specifically in WP1.

Presentation of host institution and host laboratory

G2ELab - Université Grenoble Alpes

The G2elab Grenoble Electrical Engineering Laboratory is a joint research unit (UMR 5269) of Grenoble INP - UGA, Grenoble Alpes University and CNRS, in the field of Electrical Engineering Research. It covers a scientific spectrum ranging from materials and components to the design and control of electrical energy systems. Its activities can be summed up in the following key words: electrical energy, materials, innovative processes and systems, modelling and design. With more than a hundred permanent staff, around a hundred doctoral students and 70 other members of staff such as masters, post-docs and visiting professors, G2Elab is a major national and international player in these fields, at the heart of the energy efficiency of components and systems.

Candidate's profile

The candidate must have knowledge of electrical networks and their operation. He/she must be able to provide skills in both power electronics systems and, above all, system modelling and control. The candidate must demonstrate autonomy, curiosity and a capacity for innovation. He/she will also need to have good communication skills, both for presenting his/her work and for interacting with other PhD students and lecturers from other laboratories working within the PEPR Tase framework. He/she should also have a good level of English, as most publications are written in this language.
