Widening access to higher education: sharing best practice in France and the UK
Wojciech Lewandowski - webmaster
Monday 18 February 2013, 12.30 – 20.00 : A seminar at the British Council followed by a debate at the British Embassy on best practice developed in France and the UK to facilitate access to higher education for underprivileged students.
In the changing landscapes of the higher education systems in the UK and France, both governments remain committed to widening participation in higher education, with the aim of increasing the number of under-represented groups of young people applying to, entering or graduating from higher education.
A number of initiatives have been developed in the UK and France, in secondary schools, universities and Grandes Ecoles, to encourage progression to higher education. Some of these aim to provide underprivileged students with financial help whilst others provide mentoring and accompaniment.
This event will provide a platform to discuss the effectiveness of these different initiatives and to share the wealth of experience and good practice built up over the years by practitioners in the field.
The event is open to practitioners and policy-makers interested in sharing their own experiences and in building on existing practice to inspire innovative new initiatives, as well as to students in higher education who would like to contribute to the discussion.
