Focus Ireland

In the framework of “Promoting Irish-French Academic Cooperation” days which took place in Dublin – town which hosted the 2012 Euroscience Open Forum (ESOF) –, Limerick, Cork and Galway, on the 19th and 20th of June 2014 (please see our paper dated May 23, 2014), Focus Ireland summarizes some interesting data particularly, in terms of mobility in this country.

Although the size of the Irish market is limited, the country hosts more than 300 French companies and offers many opportunities for French exporters in particular in the following areas:

Agriculture and Agri-Food;
Infrastructures;
Energy;
Health;
Information and Communication Technology.

In terms of higher education some data in 2013:

Merger of two research funding agencies (Irish Research Council)
Implementation of several major programs of public-private research over six years, such as the APC (Alimentary Pharmabiotic Centre).

Among scientific collaboration schemes: the Franco-Irish Ulysses Program for researchers' mobility which represents 15 to 20 projects per year.
Furthermore, Ireland is the fifth host country of French Erasmus students (1,748 in 2012) and France is the first non-English speaking host country of Irish Erasmus students (637 in 2012).

Three testimonials round out this publication, including that of François Pichot, Engineer in the innovation field who after having been formed in France in an engineering school, then in the United States in the framework of a PhD and a post-doc, the participation in the creation and development of an Irish start-up, joined the Technology Transfer office at the University College Dublin.
