Cooperation program with the United States: Fulbright-Tocqueville Distinguished Chair Award

Fulbright-Tocqueville Distinguished Chair Award aims to reinforce collaborative research between the United States and France by giving a French university the opportunity to invite an American professor/researcher and give him/her the opportunity to meet French colleagues, to organize and participate in conferences, and to interact with French graduate and PhD candidates in their discipline. Application deadline: September 16, 2024.

In 2005, the Franco-American Fulbright Commission, in partnership with the French Ministry of Higher Education and Research and the US Department of State, created the Fulbright-Tocqueville Distinguished Chair Award in commemoration of Alexis de Tocqueville’s 200th birthday and Senator J. William Fulbright’s 100th birthday.


TERMS AND CONDITIONS

  • The host institution commits to: 

- Facilitating the administrative procedures related to the American grantee's stay (visa, residence permit, banking, children's schooling, housing and other practical aspects...) ;

- Providing the grantee with a welcome worthy of a leading personality;

- Make the presence of the grantee at the institution as widely known as possible

  • U.S. applicants and French host institutions work together to submit a single application. Proposals for hosting by French institutions must be sent to the US applicant who attaches the proposal to her/his application form;
  • Starting date: from September 2024 (1st semester) or January 2025 (2nd semester);
  • All scientific fields are eligible.

MISSION AND FUNDING

  • This award is financed jointly by the French Ministry of Higher Education and Research and the Franco-American Fulbright Commission;
  • Funding is granted for 6 months;
  • Stipend: €6,500 per month if in Paris. If outside Paris, between €6,100 and €6,300 per month depending on location.
  • Additional travel allowance of €1,200 for grantee only and visa fees will be waived for both grantees and their accompanying dependents. 
The deadline for application is Septmeber 16, 2024.
