Alliance: French-British program to support researchers' mobility

The Partenariat Hubert Curien (PHC) - Alliance 2023 - aims to develop scientific and technological exchanges of excellence between French and the UK laboratories, involving a significant participation of young researchers (PhD and post-doctoral fellows). The deadline for applications is September 30, 2022.

Alliance is the Partenariat Hubert Curien (PHC) set up in France by the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs (MEAE) and the Ministry of Higher Education and Research (MESR), and in the UK by British Council et the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS).

Terms and conditions

  • The call for applications is open to full researchers of any nationality from research laboratories attached to higher education organizations and research institutions in France or the UK;
  • The participation of young researchers and PhD candidates is strongly encouraged.
  • The programme supports research projects proposed jointly by a French and the UK team with emphasis on programmes establishing new cooperation;
  • Companies can participate in the project, as long as they are associated with an academic partner;
  • Six major scientific areas are open for proposals:

- Mathematics,

- Chemical and Physical Sciences,

- Information and Communication Sciences,

- Biological & Medical Sciences,

- Environmental Sciences,

- Social Sciences & Humanities.

The following domains in engineering, technology and innovation will be particularly favoured: Quantum Technologies, High Performance Computing (HPC), Artificial Intelligence & Data Analytics, 5G/Telecoms, Advanced Materials, Advanced Manufacturing, Climate Change Management, Nuclear Energy, Agriculture, Food and Nutrition Security, Biotechnologies, and Resistance to microbes.

Mission and funding

  • Funding is granted on an annual basis, for two consecutive years;
  • The funding from France covers the mobility between the two countries of the researchers involved in the program. It covers stay (€180/day) and travels (reimbursement on actual expenses up to a limit of €450 per France-the UKround-trip). Funding of bilateral workshops is not possible. 
The final deadline for application is September 30, 2022.
