Fully EU-funded PhD programme FLOAWER (ITN): apply now!
The FLOAting Wind Energy netwoRk (FLOAWER) is firstly dedicated to train researchers in multi engineering required fields for a better development of Floating Offshore Wind technologies under the constraint of Levelized Cost Of Energy minimization.
Eligibility criteria and application process
About the project
While high TRLs are currently achieved due to a very conservative approach for most of the technological issues, the market will be definitely viable if the LCOE significantly decreases within the next years: according to the Floating Wind task force of WindEurope, a reduction factor of 4 by 2030 is required. LCOE reduction needs the development of a multidisciplinary approach, where all sub-system designs are jointly optimised.
Being trained in fully appropriate scientific, technical, and soft skills, the ESRs will be the leaders of change in the offshore wind energy sector, which urgently needs highly qualified experts in the field to tackle the forthcoming challenges to reduce LCOE.
Objectives
The FLOAWER network is designed to fulfil the following main objectives:
- Deliver leading-edge training to ESR by addressing the state-of-the-art scientific and transversal needs of the FOW sector;
- Enable ESR to benefit from regular mobility across EU’s most prominent industry and academia actors of the FOW sector;
- Confront the ESR to the current and upcoming engineering challenges faced by the FOW industry;
- Create a multidisciplinary environment where industries and academia share ideas and work together towards solution accelerating the commercialisation of the FOW sector;
- Support the European offshore wind energy industries to identify technological improvements by providing high performance characterization and modelling tools that can enhance their competitiveness.
About the funding
- Full-time employment
- The package includes: a living allowance (3.270€, adjusted by a correction coefficient based on the country in which the candidate will be recruited), a mobility allowance (600€), a family allowance (if applicable – 500€)
- Training and outreach activities, within an excellent academic and industrial environment
- Secondments in partner institutions (academia or industry) across Europe are possible.
Eligibility criteria and application process
Eligibility
Candidates must fulfill the following criteria:
- Application possible no later than 4 years after the completion of a Master’s degree (or any degree entitling to embark on a doctorate)
- Mobility rule: the candidate can’t have spent (lived and/or carried out the research activity) more than 12 months in the past 3 years in the country in which the candidate will be recruited
- Proficiency in English
Application process
Candidates can apply electronically to several PhD positions within a scientific Work Package, indicating their order of preference. Requested application details include a detailed CV, as well as Bachelor and Master degree transcripts.
The deadline for the on-line registration is December 31, 2019. The selected candidates are evaluated and interviewed by the Recruitment and Skill Progress Committee. FLOAWER is strongly committed to promoting equal opportunities and gender balance as part of the recruitment strategy. The expected starting date is between April 2020 and October 2020.
