Fulbright Grants: cooperation program with the United States

The Franco-American Fulbright Commission has launched its annual call for applications within the framework of its programme intended for French candidates interested in mobility to the United States. The Fulbright Program offers grants to French students, PhD candidates, and researchers.

The Fulbright Program was created in the aftermath of World War II through an initiative led by Senator J. William Fulbright.

The Fulbright Commission aims to develop academic and cultural exchanges between France and the United States in order to share, promote, and advance knowledge and skills, to respond to the challenges facing our societies, to establish lasting personal and professional ties between the two countries, and to contribute to mutual understanding between populations. It provides grants to French and American students, PhD candidates, and researchers.

As part of its 2024-2025 call for application, the Franco-American Fulbright Commission is offering various grants.

For students...

If you wish to undertake studies at Master's or PhD level (in cotutelle or otherwise), or to take part in a summer seminar in the United States, and you have French nationality, then you can apply for for a grant of the Fulbright students programApproximately 6-12 grants are available for the 2024-2025 period.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

  • Duration of the scholarship: One academic year - starting August 1, 2024 (non-renewable scholarship). 
  • All disciplines are eligible for this programme;
  • Amount: $30,000;
  • Applicants are responsible for their own admission to the U.S. university(/universities) of their choice.
The final deadline for application is December 1, 2023.

For PhD candidates 

In the framework of the "Doctorants" program, grants are intended for French PhD candidates enrolled in theses in France and invited to an American university. Approximately 15 grants are available for 2023-2024 period.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

  • Depending on your research project, the funding duration is from 4 to 12 months;
  • All disciplines are eligible for this programme;
  • The monthly amount is from $ 1 500 to $ 1 950 for employees and from $ 1 800 to $ 2 340 for those who will not be employed as part of the Program (depending on the destination);
  • Applicants are responsible for their own invitation to the U.S. institution of their choice;
  • Departure date: between August 1, 2023 and May 1, 2024;
  • Furthermore, Fulbright offers specific schemes for PhD candidates affiliated with a higher education and / or research institution located in French regions of Grand Est, Nouvelle Aquitaine and Hauts-de-France, but also CY Cergy Paris University, the University of Bordeaux, the University of Paris-Saclay, and Grenoble Alpes University.
The final deadline for application is December 20, 2023.

For researchers

French researchers, or nationals of a European Union country working in France, wishing to pursue their research in the United States can benefit from the Fulfright Chercheur program. Approximately 4-6 grants are available for the period 2024-2025.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

  • Depending on your research project, the funding duration is from 3 to 6 months;
  • All disciplines are eligible for this programme;
  • Amount: from $2,850 to $3,700 per month, depending on the destination;
  • Applicants are responsible for their own invitation to the American institution of their choice;
  • Departure date: between August 1, 2023 and May 1, 2024.
  • Furthermore, Fulbright offers specific schemes for researchers affiliated with a higher education and / or research institution located in French regions of Grand Est, Nouvelle Aquitaine and Hauts-de-France, as well as within Grenoble Alpes University.
The final deadline for application is December 20, 2023.
