DESCRIPTION OF EMPLOYER :

About Institut Mines-Télécom :

Institut Mines-Télécom (IMT) is a public institution dedicated to higher education and research for innovation in the fields of engineering and digital technology. Connected to the economic world, IMT combines strong academic and scientific background, with industrial partnerships and a unique positioning on the major transformations of the 21st century: digital, energy, industrial and educational transitions. Its activities are carried out within the Mines and Telecom schools under the supervision of the Ministry in charge of Industry. IMT is a founding member of the Industry of the Future Alliance. It is labeled by Carnot Institute for the quality of its research partnership.

About IMT Nord Europe :

IMT Nord Europe was born in 2017 from the merge of Télécom Lille and École des Mines de Douai. Today it is among the largest engineering schools in the North of Paris with more than 2,200 students, including apprentices, more than 600 graduates per year and a network of 15,000 graduates. It is part of the Institut Mines Télécom, the leading public group of engineering and management engineering schools in France, and is a partner of the University of Lille.

IMT Nord Europe has 3 main missions: to train responsible engineers capable of solving the major problems of the 21st century; to conduct research activities leading to innovations with high added value; and to support regional development, particularly by facilitating innovation and business creation. Its objective is to train the engineers of tomorrow, mastering both digital technologies and industrial know-how. Ideally located at the crossroads of Europe, 1 hour from Paris and from Brussels and 1h30 from London, IMT Nord Europe aims to become a major player in the industrial, digital and environmental transformations of the 21st century by combining, both in his teaching and in his research, engineering sciences and digital technologies. Located on 2 main teaching and research sites, in Lille and Douai, IMT Nord Europe relies on more than 20,000 m² of laboratory space to develop high-level teaching and excellent research in these fields spread over 3 Education and Innovation Research Centers (CERI): Digital Systems; Energy Environment; Materials and Processes.

CONTEXT :

Institution Strategy :

Within the scope of IMT, the Junior Professorship position aims to structure, unite and develop the research topic on Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ) between the Schools of IMT by enhancing common research infrastructures making it possible to hybridize the skills of the Schools. The Junior Professorship aims to assert the international positioning of IMT in the field of IEQ, both in research and education, through an international master's degree. The aim is to structure a European network for the Institute on this future research topic in response to societal expectations, public authorities and socio-economic actors.

The Junior Professorship :

This tenure track position is set up by the French research law, it constitutes a new recruitment route allowing for access to a tenured position in the body of Professors. Recruitment is carried out on a research and teaching project proposed by candidates holding a PhD. As part of the CPJ CoSaQuE project, the duration of the tenure contract is set for 5 years. During these 5 years, the Junior Professorship laureate benefits from financial support defined by the CPJ CoSaQuE project. At the end of this contract, on the basis of criteria defined in the CPJ CoSaQuE project, a commission decides on the tenure of the beneficiary of the Junior Professorship. The complete CPJ CoSaQuE project can be made available to candidates on request.

About the host unit :

CERI Energy Environment develops activities at the heart of energy and environmental transitions for the training of tomorrow's socio-economic actors based on research oriented towards atmospheric sciences, IEQ and energy efficiency. Research activities are structured into three axes :

EFT - Energy, Fluids and Transfers : to improve the understanding of multi-scale physical mechanisms of heat and mass transfers; to develop and implement innovative thermo fluidic components and more efficient and sustainable optimized systems, integrating renewable energies and network and storage issues.

OSPA - Observations, Sources and Atmospheric physicochemical Processes : to identify the drivers of the chemical composition of the lower troposphere in the context of climate change and societal transitions; to characterize reactive gaseous species and particles, from natural and anthropogenic sources and to analyze the physical and chemical processes involved.

IEQ - Indoor Environmental Quality : to provide information and to understand the drivers of indoor environments ; to identify levers for action and ensure environmental health and comfort of occupants.

Strategy of the host research unit :

CERI Energy Environment wants to strengthen its skills in the field of indoor environmental quality, and develop new interfaces with other French and foreign academics through the Junior Professorship. The objective of the host unit is to consolidate the structure of its interdisciplinary research axis on Indoor Air Quality (materials, buildings, occupants, mobility) and building energy. Interdisciplinarity involves collaborative visions including of exposure assessment, environmental health and building physics. For the host unit, the Junior Professorship also makes it possible to strengthen the synergy between research and teaching activities, in particular through the development of an international Master's degree.

The jury will be particularly attentive to proposals promoting complementarity with the current research activities of CERI Energy Environment in IEQ. The activities must be linked to the areas of excellence of the School and the Institut Mines Télécom as well as multidisciplinarity with other organizations.

Poste et missions

MISSIONS :

Expected contributions to research :

IEQ integrates the study of comfort parameters (temperature, hygrometry, noise, brightness) and the composition of the air breathed in closed environments (housing, work spaces, transport, etc.), in order to ensure well-being and health of the occupants. These environments must reconcile environmental and energy transitions with the comfort and health of occupants. The expected scientific strategy involves experimental research actions and advanced data analyzes possibly covering all the drivers of IEQ: materials, construction, ventilation, remediation, evaluation, exposure. The expected research themes could relate to :

  • The contributions of indoor environments to exposure of occupants.
  • The means of evaluating the exposure and comfort of occupants.
  • Feedbacks to optimize comfort and exposure.
  • Preserving the comfort and environmental health of occupants under climate adaptation.
  • The impacts of energy efficiency in indoor environments on the wellbeing of occupants.

Expected contributions to teaching :

The analysis of the higher education landscape allowed CERI Energy Environment to identify strong expectations and opportunities in IEQ trainings. In connection with its European research collaboration network, the decision was made to launch the international Master's degree in Engineering of Sustainable and Healthy Built Environment. This training program will be built and submitted for accreditation if possible in 2025. The teaching project of the person recruited will be able to support Professors leading this Master's degree. The expected actions are : (i) to contribute to the educational construction and promotion of the international Master's degree, and (ii) to contribute to the teaching and tutoring of Master's students. This teaching project allows for mutual enrichment of research and teaching activities linked to European Universities. It could benefit from the EuLIST alliance as a lever for promotion and collaboration in the medium term. Note that the Junior Professoship laureat will benefit from reduced teaching load.
