How will you contribute?
During the traineeship, you will have the opportunity to explore the fascinating field of meta-materials—engineered materials with properties not found in nature—through the use of computational modelling and finite element analysis. The main objective is to support ongoing research activities while gaining hands-on exposure to predictive modelling techniques commonly used in materials science and engineering.
Your contributions will include:
- Conducting a review of relevant scientific literature and technical documentation related to meta-materials and simulation techniques.
- Assisting in the setup and validation of simplified finite element models.
- Running basic simulations under supervision and interpreting preliminary results.
- Preparing structured summaries and visual presentations of your findings to support internal knowledge sharing.
This role is intended to be informative, exploratory, and vocational, helping you to develop practical skills while contributing to the broader research context in a meaningful and educational way.
Profil

Education
- Master student in Aerospace, mechanical or structural engineering.
- Students from Materials Science, Physics, Civil Engineering, or Computational Science backgrounds will also be considered, especially if they have relevant skills and interests.
- Academic background or coursework in computational mechanics or material modelling is an asset.
Experience and skills
- Good knowledge of mechanics of solids and structures
- Good knowledge of the finite elements’ method.
- Good programming skills in Python
- Knowledge of a commercial finite elements software (Abaqus is a plus).
- Ability to work with scientific literature and technical documentation.
- Experience with scripting or automation of simulations is a plus.
- Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently under supervision and manage time effectively.
Language skills
- Good level both written and spoken English
