The Photonic Signals and Systems Group, led by Professor José Azaña at INRS-EMT, has a worldwide recognized record of achievements in ultrafast optical signal processing using fiber and integrated photonic technologies. Position Overview:
Our research involves smart manipulations of waves and fields, mainly in the optical domain (light), to achieve critical signal/image processing functionalities with the needed performance (e.g., ultrahigh speed) and efficiency for future applications, beyond the potential of present solutions. Applications of specific interest to the group include ultrahigh-speed and ultra-secure communications, next-generation computing and information processing, broadband radar and lidar systems, advanced optical imaging and sensing, quantum optics, and ultrafast metrology. Positions are currently available for graduate students to work on several exciting research projects, such as:
- Highly-efficient, ultrafast computing engines, based on optical neural networks and beyond.
- Quantum-optics processing and analysis for next-generation communications, sensing and computing.
- Ultrahigh-speed signal processing and computing chips based on integrated photonics.
The available positions offer opportunities to engage in theoretical analysis, numerical modeling and/or experimental testing, tailored to the candidate’s strengths and interests. This is a unique chance for aspiring researchers to get involved in timely and highly relevant science and technology problems!

Profil du candidat
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, Applied physics, Mathematics, or a related field.
- An excellent academic record.
- Strong background and/or previous research experience in optics, photonics, and/or signal processing (e.g., Fourier theory).
- Strong skills in oral and written communication, problem-solving, critical thinking, and others.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Proficiency in English or French.
